Introducing....

The newest member of our design team: Mandy Dodd/mandysea from Australia! :D

Here's a little bit about Mandy...

My style leans towards a love of Shabby Chic and Vintage, but I love to break out every now and then and do something different!

www.teacupofscrapisms.blogspot.com

A bit about her favourite children's book...

I loved the suspense, the drama and the secrets within the story.

It’s an emotional journey within each character as the story develops.

I grew up loving ‘garden rooms,’ tree houses, birds and small animals!!

And it’s still reminiscent and very evident in my garden today!

I don’t think I stuck with any one author –

but rather the theme of nature with my favourite colour being green.

Check out how she ROCKED the Alice challenge!

I love the caterpillar!! He doesn’t say a lot but what he does say is profound to the shrunken Alice who was trying to swallow her anger…

‘Keep your temper’ was his advice.

‘Are you content now’?, then offered Alice two choices and disappeared!

And here is my daughter being the caterpillar……sage advice I think!

CHALLENGE #7: ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Everyone's favorite cracktastic classic, that had to be written with the help of drugs...
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

You may also choose to draw inspiration for it's sequel : Through the Looking Glass

Some Ideas:
Try to incorporate one or more of the following:
playing cards, chess pieces, hearts, crowns, tea cups, tea kettles, hats, cats, mushrooms, caterpillars, flowers, rabbits, clocks, the color sky blue...

Some quotes:
'Curiouser and curiouser!'

`we're all mad here.'

'shall I never get any older than I am now?'

`Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it.'

`Off with her head!'

"Drink me"

"Eat Me"

"I think she's pretty"

"There's no use in going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then."

See what the Design team did with it...

JULIE: inspired by the quote which describes her darling Brooke perfectly.
She's also got tons of flowers, a hat, some light blue, playing cards (a queen even!)
JULIE "I think she's pretty"

BREE: Bree sent this in way back at out DT call. I just loved it so! It's a canvas inspired by Alice. I love the 3D effect of the lace apron!
Bree

LOU: She's got playing cards and crowns galore on this pretty page about her sweet niece Kassi.
Lou

KIMMY: Inspired by the Jabberwocky poem in Through the Looking Glass. I had to memorize it in high school... still can quote most of it. I wrote the entire poem on the paper that I made myself in the center (using tissue paper/modge podge/ glimmer mist). I also included many elements from the Alice books in a collage around the poem: an illustration of Alice, a Queen of Hearts card, tea cup/tea pot tag w/ the words "drink me" on it, the tag from that Mad Hatter's hat, a cat, some Alice fan art, a crown, a garden, & a clock.
Kimmy

LORI: She used a quote from the book
"There's no use in going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then" and a lot of the same blue as Alice's dress, some flowers, and the word "journey" which is definitely a theme in the book.

Challenge #6: Horton Hears a Who

Since we seem to get more participation when the deadline is farther away I've made the decision to make this a ONCE a MONTH challenge blog instead of every two weeks. Hopefully that will increase our participation even more. {Though this blog isn't suffering quite as much as Theatre Love, where we only had ONE ENTRY last month. *sadness* So go over there and check it out if you like musical theatre!}

On with the challenge!

When one thinks of children's books one of the first names to come to mind is Dr. Seuss. With is fun colorful illustrations, rhyming text, and life lessons embedded within his tales he's the PERFECT inspiration for Kiddie Lit! We chose Horton Hears a Who as our book this month, because it's one of our DT's favorites. So let it inspire your next page. You can use a quote from the book (like Julie and I did) or the theme of Empathy like Haggith did. Bright fun colors are a must and rhyming journaling is optional. You may also choose to use dandelions or elephants on your page... or the word WHO. Just have fun with it and tell us WHAT INSPIRED YOU!

Here's some DT inspiration for you!

.....JULIE....
.....KIMMY....

......HAGGITH.....

Post a direct link to your creation here BY SEPTEMBER 30th to be eligible for the prize drawing. Seriously, the pages are getting so good it's too hard to vote on them any more!
Thank to all of you for playing and spreading the word about our little blog!
